Sarcastic Wednesday

In observance of Sarcastic Wednesday, I want to share a blog that I read that I absolutely love! With a healthy (vitamin packed) dose of sarcasm, it addresses various aspects of the christian life that we struggle with, or at times should at least question! Today's post addressed the prosperity gospel that seems to be the new fad in so many mega-churches...( and beyond).

Here are a couple of quotes from his blog today, and the comments posted in response.

I couldn't find a single example where Jesus fixed someone's problem with money. I could not find where He healed a situation with more stuff. I know you will tell me that Abraham was rich and Joseph had a really nice coat, but what about Jesus? I could not find a passage in His life where a possession was the solution. The second problem was that I could not get around the idea that being prosperity focused did not make it easy for me to keep the number one commandment, which is love God. And it didn't make it easier to love others. It almost felt like I was trying to rewrite those verses and reorder them to say, "Love yourself, Love God and love others." I can't be first though. I have to be last. - John Acuff

"I have three things I'd like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don't give a shit. What's worse is that you're more upset with the fact that I said shit than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night." - Tony Campolo
